I thought the subject of Double Double Bonus (DDB) was an intriguing one before it atrophied...so since it’s now locked I’m starting a new one!
I’ll assume the reader already is familiar with the paytables and DDB’s evil variant sibling Triple Double Bonus and it’s lesser evil variant Double Bonus.
The reasons I think it’s popular is varied:
1. Offers half royal jackpot for aces with a 2,3,4 kicker, 2000 units. 800 for 2,3,4’s with A,2,3,or 4 kicker. In other words, enticing jackpots that happen somewhat more frequently then just the royal.
2. It pays 3 to 1 for three of a kind. Makes a huge difference in variance than tdb 2 to 1 for trips, and even die hard players of tdb admit this difference is major and gets more so with longer play.
3. Despite the previous poster, DDB is an easy game to learn to play. At least, easier than tdb, dbp, or deuces.
4. One can find DDB in over 100% full pay versions if fortunate enough, the 10/6 version. Although the 9/6 and 8/6 are much more common.
Although not as variant as triple double bonus, it does have significant variance. I’m fortunate enough to play this game in the 10/6 version. It’s one of my favorite games, but even in this version, the variance can be brutal.
But bottom line is, jackpots are fun and there is a lot of them on DDB. Hence it’s popularity in my humble opinion.
DDB, the most popular game, deserved?

Thank you for reposting about DDB. I was going to make a new topic “I guess DDB isn’t for everyone...” however let’s leave that behind us and move forward.
I have seen the 10/6 DDB with a progressive on top at the Aquarius in Laughlin. My bosses brother was lucky enough to slip a 100$ in and hit it.. it’s personally too volitle for my blood. I’m no where near disciplined to handle the swings...
I was told once while playing job that I’m playing a “bad game” because DDB has more ways to win.. I left down $100 while the person continued to feed 100$ bills into a machine...
Did you guys know by chance if Total Rewards gave mailers or perhaps offered charter flights based off theoretical loss?

If you live near an airport that does charters, I believe it's fairly easy to get invited.

10/6? In my dreams... One of the reasons DDB gets such a bad reputation is the odds are often worse than terrible. It's a very exciting game. I put it right up there with deuces wild. The most common odds we see on this game are 8/5. This is an over $20 an hour loser even with quarters. Every now and then we find 9/5 DDB and think we found a bonanza.
If I could play 10/6 all the time, I wouldn't play anything else. I would weather the down turns, bet big and count my comps. As it is, I have to choose between bad, worse and horrible. I will take a shot at DDB if the day is swimming in quads. If you play 8/5 DDB all day you might as well flush your money down the toilet and save yourself the trouble.

At least 95% of the VP players in America have the choice of playing negative games or not playing at all. When you play these games, there is always a cost. The casino will offset the cost with comps and free play. The majority of the time the freebies aren't nearly enough to cover the cost. Most players are not idiots. They can play the game or not and they choose to play.Pokerface1961 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 6:39 amAt the Casino I am playing, the only available DDB game is 9/5...in triple and five play, I like to play them but very stressful...Any comments anyone ?
When you choose to play these games, you should know the cost and the comps before you play. Only then can you decide if playing the game is worth the cost of admission. I play alongside players who play dollar 8/5 DDB all day. I don't think the cost is worth it, but I'm not playing with their money. When I play DDB, I limit the time I play and the amount I invest in the game. This compromise gives me the best value for my money. Someone right next to me may think I'm stupid for playing this way. I may think they are. If we both are happy with the way we play, who is right?
If you are going to play triple or five up 9/5 DDB, you are increasing your cost to play VP. The house edge on this game is a little over 2%. As long as you realize this and are willing to pay more, go for it.
