A strange thing happened at Four Winds today

Post by Tedlark »

So I ducked over to Four Winds early this morning to knock out some free play. I got there a bit early before the free play activated so I went to a favorite video slot I occasionally like to play called Treasure's of Troy. I cashed out up $100.00 right when free play activated so I downloaded it onto my account and went over to the Dream Card machines.

There was a couple tag-teaming the end machine so I politely asked the woman if I could play the machine next to them. After getting the stink eye from her, she moved over and I began play. Luckily they left right as I was beginning play.

I was playing for a couple minutes when another lady walked up and began playing the end machine. While she was there I was dealt trip aces and trip kings (twice) and I couldn't connect on any of these three opportunities.

At this point she looked at me and said: "Everybody knows these machines are rigged."

I was tempted to ask her if she was a Harvard grad and if she played in Atlantic City but I didn't.

I ended up cashing out up $200.00 about 5 minutes later and left. Up $300.00 fir the ultraquick session including what I won on the slot.

Way to go Ted. If I could hit and run like that, I would be ahead nearly every session. I'm working on it. Still thinking about those 2 new Mercedes I left on the lot. You know where that money went.

You stay, you pay. If I get up $100, everyone is eating my dust. Easiest casino decision, Olds. Hanging around while losing is more my problem.

The strange thing I was referring too was not me making the quick hit and run as I've done that many times before, but rather the woman who told me that everybody knows these machines are rigged.

I don't find it strange at all that people say things in casinos that I disagree with.

Define rigged. I mean aren't they all "rigged" technically speaking, via they pay tables? One can be rigged to pay 98.98% return, one can be "rigged" to pay 100+% and so on. Slots as well are set or "rigged" to a certain % return, yes?

There are perople that have this notion that Indian casinos cheat by changing the innards of the machines, thereby "rigging" them. Of course, this isn't true. Four Winds, though, has stolen legit winnings from AP's. But that wasn't video poker. It was talked about on a GWAE episode once a few years ago.

There are many methods a casino can use to "rig" the machines without touching the innards of the machine. They can fail to maintain them properly causing unintended player errors. They can place the good machines in an area that makes them difficult or tiresome to play. They can put them in places where the glare is overbearing or place them next to the crap tables where noisy drunk players break their concentration. There are only six good video poker games left at the Hollywood Hard Rock. They are all stand up machines. Our casinos don't want players who play 99% games to be comfortable. They want they them to sit down comfortably at the 96% machines.

You will not see the negative effects these things have in a computer simulation. In the real world of VP, there are more things going against you than the odds.

With the possible exception of poor machine maintenance which could cause player errors, none of these actions meet my definition of "rigging".
