South Point Downgrades 50-play and 100-play machines

Post by Sea Lion »

I sit down at the first 50 play in a row of 4 across from the Oyster Bar and to my surprise hit a RF playing DDB after 6 hands in, so I switch to BP and hit a Full House only to find out that it is paying 30 coins instead of 40 coins, so I stop what I'm doing and check the paytables on all the games, and sure enough the 4 50-play and the 3 100-play all took a big hit. DDB in all seven machines have been downgraded from 9/6 to 7/5 for nickels and 9/5 for 2 cents. BP from 8/5 to 6/5 for nickels and 7/5 for 2 cents. TDB from 9/6 to 8/5 nickels. I'm sure the other games on those machines also took a hit, just didn't hang around long enough to gather the info. Just in time for the 3 day Labor Day weekend. Those were my favorite multi-play machines there. Way to go, South Point... Thank you for the RF early on though!

Down grades and no benefits - the casinos hate video poker players - I just posted about a casino in Colorado where I hit platinum status and then they took all my benefits away. Card works in the machines but I cannot get any freeplay and the card will not scan in the kiosks for contest entries or bonus point days.

TDB 9/5 for 2 cents. DB from 9/7/5 to 9/6/4 for nickels, 9/6/5 for 2 cents, JoB from 9/6 to 7/5 for nickels and 8/5 for 2 cents. Not sure of DW as I've really never had much luck playing that. I find that odd that the lower the denom the "better" the pay table would be for these.

We have been dealing with this issue in the Southeast for years. Our casinos tolerate VP. They certainly don't do anything to encourage it. On top of that some States hit VP players with outrageous taxes. The best way to combat this issue is to limit your coin in by playing less hands, playing slower or betting less per hand.

Video poker as bad as the odds are these days is still a better deal than slots.

Aren't all machine jackpots subject to taxes, not just VP?

I am not an expert on State gambling taxes, but I believe so. In Mississippi for example, all slot machine hand pays are taxed at 3%. VP is considered a slot machine. This is on top of the Federal Tax which depends upon your tax bracket. Many States also do not not allow offsetting losses.

And I have a few choice words for Boyds restructure of their players club. First they downgraded Senior day big time, and now the latest - The new club is structured for the slot player and the high roller and discourages VP. VP players at Boyd properties are now rated like table games for tier points, and $2 in for 1 regular point as opposed to slot players who remain at $1 for 1 point. Tier points are $5 in for 1 tier point for slot players. They will lose a lot of local VP business.

It's not only out of state casinos that are hitting VP players, it is also happening here in LV.

i have read a lot of comments on the new B connected. The only positive ones have been of the nature: "I'm positive I won't be going back"

It's very disappointing. Main Street Station has been one of our regular Vegas stopping spots for several years, but we may have to seriously look elsewhere. We are booked into MSS in early November, and we'll see how it goes.

Southpoint's downgrades are the worst, because it has always been a VP-friendly casino.
