Funny Superstitions

Post by FloridaPhil »

The other day I was playing VP in Tampa. I like to walk around during the day, so I happened by a double bank of older machines. I usually avoid these machines as they always have bad deal buttons. All the seats were taken but one. The casino was busy so I walked over to the empty seat. I asked the person next to the seat if anyone was playing there. All he did was point to the screen. I thought he was telling me the machine was broken. I looked down and the machine showed quad 4s with an ace. I couldn't believe no one would play that machine. Evidently, they thought jackpots only happen every so often and this machine was going to be dead for an extended period of time. I told him I like playing games like that. I sat down and started playing. Sure enough, I hit quad eights. The guy's wife started kidding him about my good fortune. Ten minutes later I hit quad aces. Their discussion was getting ugly, so I decided to move on. I wonder if anyone moved over to that machine after I left?

I avoid the four figure hit machines. Yesterday I was slammed by a $500 hitter, but got a quad on a $750 hitter.

About 7-8 years ago I was playing in a small tribal casino in Okeechobee Florida. The place was not much more than a metal barn. I was in the area and had some time to kill, so I gave it a try. A guy next to me hit a couple of quads in a row and moved down a few machines. At the time I was playing DDB at the 50 cent level. About a minute after he left, I hit quad aces with a kicker for $1,000. He wasn't too happy. I was. :)

I don't believe there is any pattern to when quads happen. One hand is independent from the rest. From a purely human perspective, quads do seem to come in spurts. It's probably me trying to assign order to chaos.

Most people have hang ups. I usually give back quads and especially FHs in a blink. They don't let me continue in blissful prosperity.
