Playing Single Coin VP for Retirees

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

Bought my wife some flowers and wrote a love letter. I woke up with a gift certificate to the dog groomer under my pillow. Thank you for making my dreams come true.
Funny...

They want people willing to lose more per visit
Playing single coin quarter VP is a form of Advantage Play. Where is the advantage? Think about it like this. You are sitting in a beautiful air conditioned and heated casino. In most casinos, the drinks will be free. The drink girls are just as pretty and the music is just as nice. The machines are just as much fun and jackpots occur just as often. You are sitting in the same seat a dollar player would sit in. Is there value in this? Yes. It's like playing golf, using the cart and drinking in the clubhouse for quarters. Try that at your local club.

There are differences. What you are doing is making a conscious decision to use the casinos facilities at a huge discount. VPW software will provide you with the correct single coin play strategy. You will win sometime and you lose sometime, but the money involved is minimal. You won't win long term, few players do.

It's not the game of VP that is driving most players to play the game, it's the dream of hitting a big jackpot. The bigger the dream, the more money the casino makes. When you remove the dream from Video Poker, things change. I'm not trying to turn everyone into a single coin quarter player. I want members to know it's not as bad as they have been lead to believe. The next time you see an older person playing single coin quarters, think about all they are getting for nearly nothing. It might make you mad. I might change your mind on who's intelligent.

I would ammend the statement: "in most casinos, the drinks are free." Haven't even Las Vegas casinos started moving toward a play based drink system? And for several reasons, I would also step back from promoting drinking alcohol in casinos as a reason to patronize casinos.

The largest Florida casinos are located on native tribal lands. They offer free water, coffee and soft drinks, they do not offer free alcohol. Back in the day everyone at the Beau RIvage in Biloxi started drinking premium liquor. I was amazed at how many people drank Maker's Mark, Grey Goose, Crown Royal and Johnny Walker Black. They put a stop to that practice. Free alcoholic drinks are now bar brands or you pay extra.

The other day some guy playing next to me ordered a fancy latte from the drink girl. He was very specific on how he wanted it made. I don't know if she charged him extra. I would have.

How many hundred times has Phil talked about the dismal conditions that pro players put up with, especially dark dank smoke filled places.
Now they are beautiful, clean places where attractive women serve you free drinks.

I have to agree that casinos in general do not care much for the video poker players. The lack of video poker machines at the new Mgm and Springfield is just one example. They are also poorly maintained at least in Connecticut and where I play at Mohegan sun, you don’t even get points that you can spend for any of the 99% games. I don’t know is the casinos are even looking at the total amount a regular video player poker only like myself loses in any given year. If they looked at that, I think they would be more than satisfied in trying to keep me there.

I'd roll out the red carpet for Olds and his gold! Still dreaming of that one hand to trigger my card cutting celebration.

You brought up a good point.

Here's the difference. A true professional player is only interested in profit. I believe they will play VP anywhere they can find a big enough advantage. I am positive an AP would sit on a toilet in a stinking bathroom and play VP if the ER and incentives were big enough. How big would that have to be? I don't know, ask one and tell us.

I'm not looking for an advantage, so I can be particular about where I play. I want to play VP in well maintained, clean casinos with nice amenities. I also want to be treated as a valuable customer even if I play 25 cents a hand. I frequent casinos with large non smoking areas. I don't want cigarette ashes 1/2 inch deep on my keyboards and I don't want to be forced to play around loud drunks. If the casino doesn't deliver what I want, I play somewhere else.

Playing VP strictly for profit is a different game than I play. I play VP for the fun of playing VP. Profit is not expected. When it happens, I'm surprised. As long as the cost to play VP does not exceed the pleasure I get out of it, I'm happy. I am in control of that cost, not the math.

Actually, FAA, MGM did roll out the red carpet for me. It was a left over red napkin from last Christmas. In return, I rewarded them with a few chunks of Pyrite from my pocket I just happened to have on me from a recent Gem show in the Springfield area. I have two calls into them for a host and or slot manager to run by them what I experienced so far. No response after several days. Am I surprised....NO. That's OK. They won't be getting any more gold from this old time prospector.

I'm not surprised either. Now that I have a card pouch, I will pack a small pair of scissors. Imagine the cage or attendant reaction when I cut my card in front of them.
