I need a cash out warden.

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

When he traveled to Las Vegas, my dad also used to mail himself back a portion (usually 50-75%) of his daily winnings. A couple days after he got back, the envelopes would start showing up in the mailbox.

There have been many times in my VP life when I thought cashing out at the right time was the key to beating the casino. Players love stories like this because it gives them comfort and it reinforces the idea that the casino is vulnerable. The timing of when you cash out has nothing to do with your long term results. However, it does have benefits.

Cashing out when you are ahead makes you feel good. You have "captured" your win and you're not giving it back, at least that's the plan. It makes you feel better when you walk out of the casino with money in your pockets. The biggest real advantage of cashing out is gained if it keeps you from taking excessive risks or playing above your bankroll.

I believe the discipline Bob Dancer talks about is the discipline to play only when you have a mathematical advantage on the house and to play the game computer perfect. You must maximize all available comps and incentives as they are a significant part of your edge.

Does this sound familiar? It's the same thing Bob has been teaching for years. So why does it seem like I am in conflict with his teachings? I'm not. I do not believe the games I am comfortable with playing are beatable. The odds tell me they aren't and the comps aren't big enough to overcome the house edge. I can't change that unless I am willing to take big risks with my money. I'm not in that business.

If cashing out helps you, I think you should do it. I definitely helps me feel better about my day at the casino. I don't believe it changes my long term results.

I guess I should have stipulated that my father never touched a video poker machine in his life, he strictly played craps.

I have never played craps myself. Can it be a positive game?

FloridaPhil, as with everything else, one size doesn't fit all. If it works for me, personal experience rules. Said with all due respect.

As you know, I am not a big believer in the ability of math to predict live VP results. My personal belief is that all human VP players are playing in the short term and that anything can happen. That said, you can not deny that the timing of your "cash outs" does not affect the game's odds, your comps or your errors. If you have confidence in this strategy, it will most likely work for you until it doesn't. Like I stated previously, my thoughts have leaned that way many times before and it has always failed me. Perhaps it will hold for you this time? What can it hurt?

Player 1 if the pay table has a negative return.
And player 2 if it's positive?

Yes. Player 2 if the pay table has a positive return.

Great tips. TITO come home! I always get RF check, even <$1,200 tax threshold. I leave on a quad, so no give back there. My problem is getting stuck on a cold one for -$100. Bad habit of converting twenties to a hundred, thinking that produces discipline, when it actually results in drunken sailor behavior.

Yep. Do you remember the movie The Last Detail made in 1973 starring Jack Nicholson?
