Its still short term, but I finally found something that works OK and is fun

The lighter side... playing for entertainment, less concerned about "the math."

It is spin poker. Quarter game. Pays 800 for 1 quarter bet for the Royal. It is only a 97.3 return, but in eleven trials so far, I have managed to be ahead 20 percent or more of the bankroll I brought with me. The game is Bonus Deuces Wild. I play 3 lines and begin by betting a quarter a line. When I have lost the amount that 5 aces pays, which for bet one is 80 for one or a twenty dollar bill, I start betting 2 per line. If I lose another 160 quarters, I would go to bet 3 per line and so forth. I also back it down if I have other hits that would put me in a category where i should be playing a smaller amount. It is lots of fun. It keeps your mind working. If You hit quad deuces or a Royal, you will have a nice bonanza. I am still working on my discipline, but getting much better. On my trip to Mohegan Sun last night, I just played with my free play and one hundred dollar bill. The free play wasn't much. In a couple of hours, I had cleared a hundred bucks by hitting 5 aces twice. What this amounts to is a very very mild Martingale. Anyway, so far so good and having fun.

Short term as it applies to human played video poker is undefinable. One player's short term may be 1,000 hands. Another persons may be a few years. Long term is meaningless to a human player as the game can change, the wager can change and the odds can change from one casino to the other. "Life time" can vary from one individual to the next. Even skill levels can change as a person tires or ages. I am sure there are people on this website who have never played a single royal cycle and others who have played hundreds if not thousands of cycles.

Video poker math is predicated on perfect play by computers in perfect conditions. Live human play in a real casino is not even close to that environment. If players actually believed that all VP results are predetermined, no one would ever play the game.

Olds, I predict your strategy will work for you until it doesn't. That may be a very long time or it might be sooner than later. There is no 100% perfect infallible video poker strategy. When and if that ever becomes a reality, the casino's will change the rules and we will be right back where we started.

A man jumps off the Empire State Building.
As he passes the 50th floor his wife texts him
He answers it as he passes the 10th floor.
So far, so goo......

Every system works, until it doesn't. Keep that in mind and enjoy.

I read your post a few more times and I believe you have identified "the" most significant action a player can make to improve their discipline. By severely limiting the amount of money you have to play with, you will automatically become a more disciplined player. You will watch every hand like it's your last. You will choose your games carefully. You will go with your best option and stick with your plan. If things aren't going well, you will be gone. If things are going right, you will want to go home with your profit. Cut your daily bankroll in half and see how it goes. It may be difficult at first, but I'll bet you have better results.

Things you thought you would never see in a lifetime, you will see in all forms of gambling. I have seen six consecutive 12s rolled in craps. I have seen an hour and a half roll in craps. I myself and a 55 minute roll in craps more than 20 years ago. I have seen 14 consecutive red’s on roulette. I have seen three consecutive zeros followed by two consecutive double zeros. In video poker I have seen three players sitting next to each other hit royals less than 30 seconds apart each. And on and on. Whenever we think we have things all figured out, we will get a huge surprise and not Necessarily one we counted on or wanted.

I forgot one more. Five years ago I was walking by a two seater progressive any Sheen and saw a lady hit the more than $2.3 million progressive jackpot. I guess I’ve posted about that before.

I wish. Olds' BR approximates mine, $140. I prefer dollar. I either lose $100 or hit a quad. You really have to love quarter play. It's a snooze, but sleep is also exceedingly healthy, so it makes sense.

Yes it does. Somehow, I never seem to catch up on sleep but I am working on that too. Otherwise, I won’t be a 70-year-old who thinks he is 18 forever

AC in AM for quick play. Then sports book lounging among the riffraff NFL gamblers far from the machines. Decent formula for fun and minimal losses.
