A Billion for Your Thoughts

Post by FAA »

Is everyone awaiting tonight's epic Mega Millions drawing? Ignoring the odds, I purchased ten games. With 71% of the numbers and 40% of the Mega balls, I hope to recoup 20% of my investment. :|

Not anymore; the drawing was approximately 32 minutes ago.

I drove down to Primm, which is the closest place for Nevada residents to buy tickets. Upon arrival, we were told it was a four hour wait, which would have been well after the drawing. After about 45 minutes, we were about a third of the way there when someone came out to sell $20 quick picks. I bought 5( four for other people) and was ready to go. My friend bought one but then wanted to wait in line to get one with his special numbers.
I convinced him otherwise and we headed over to the Pioneer Saloon. Sadly they were having Karaoke so we left after not even a half dozen rounds. Tried to go to the new White Castle but the drive thru was closed. Parked and went in only to discover the White Castle is only open 11AM-7PM.
The Travel Plaza is huge, with 90something gas pumps and a food court that is on super steroids. Do we really need 500 gallon drums of M&Ms and Jolly Ranchers in our stores. One thing I noticed is the limited number of slots currently operating but how big an expansion could be.

My dream fizzled as expected. Having covered the waterfront on numbers, I can always say that I got all five. But on four separate games. I decided that the Mega ball would be two digits. So I missed lucky seven. 0% return.

Ah, Primm. I have many many fond memories between 1992-2006 when I would either drive or be driven from Los Angeles to Vegas. My visits to Vegas were either Business (typically Monday-Thursdays), or Pleasure (Could be starting on a Thursday night but more likely Friday Night and ending either late Sunday, Early Monday or even Early Tuesday (during Football so I could enjoy the Monday Night game in a place like Buffalo Bills or Whisky Pete's in Primm)...

My last four years or so, when I was more independent both professionally and financialy, starting late 2001 thru 2006ish, I had MANY MANY "long" weekends that typically went like this: I'd finish work around 4pm Thursday and then either fly or be driven to Vegas and stay at a place like Golden Nugget-downtown from Thursday evening, thru Saturday Morning. Then, depending on how I felt, what was going on in Vegas, etc. I'd either stay one more evening @GN or one of the other downtown locales (like 4 Queens or Binion's HorsePoo) and THEN, on Sunday Morning head to Primm for one or two nights; or I'd just head out to Primm and spend Saturday night thru Monday or Tuesday night! I'd do all my football betting and watching from one of the Primm Casinos' Sportsbook/bars, and it was mostly my sports betting action during that time that allowed me to get a free room just about Any Sunday?monday I wanted!

Primm Nevada was home, back Then to the ABSOLUTE BEST STEAKHOUSE in the Vegas & Surrounding area, the Silver Spur inside Whisky Petes! I have not been to it in over a decade so I cannot speak to what the SIlver Spur is like TODAY, but back then it simply was the concensus STEAKHOUSE pick of ALL Vegas Denizens, all Vegas Dealers, and all Vegas Management/Exec types. Phenomenal food, the entire Menu. In All Honsety, THAT place was the real reason I preferred and spent as much time in the Primm casinos as I did anywhere else.

10 tickets here as well, won exactly zero dollars. Which is weird, because I was sure I'd pick up at least a million in this one.

Misery loves company. I assumed a four dollar win, rationalize a $16 entertainment expense. Denied even that bone. Are you all in for the $20 tomorrow? Did you Quick Pick? QP yields duplication. I prefer to actually have the numbers and hope they were correctly arranged.

In for another $20 dream sequence tonight. Even third place is welcome. It's always interesting to see how many of my fifty numbers were spat out and where I placed them.

Another 0% return fiasco. SC coffers get a nice tax revenue windfall.

Let me say that I hate waiting on lines and generally refuse to do so.
That said, the roughly three hours spent on line were pretty enjoyable. It's amazing how people opened up so about what they would do with the money.
